Sea of Survivors, INC. (S.O.S.) is a non for profit to help anyone receive areola tattoos or help with improving their scars. While battling a disease or going through major life events, the person is emotionally, physically, mentally, and financially exhausted. After it is all said and done, disfigurements are more of a reminder of the traumatic event. It is great to be alive, but the battle wounds continue to plaque the mind.
Our mission is to provide dermatological enhancements to cancer and non-related cancer survivors post-amputation or disfigurement. The appropriate financial support will help facilitate the last part of their journey by providing closure and help build back their confidence.
S.O.S. Wants everyone to have the opportunity to put the last phase of their journey behind them and to feel good about being alive and whole!
According to the 1999 Woman’s Health and Cancer Right Act. Insurance is suppose to cover all phases of reconstruction after a mastectomy, including the tattooing.
Unfortunately, some insurance companies will not pay for the tattooing. Their reason is because Areola Artists are not a doctor. For times when insurance will not pay, donations can cover the costs. This would guarantee anyone needing or wanting areola tattooing or scar improvements the chance to close the chapter on their journey and have a fresh start for their future!
1999
Woman’s Health and Cancer Right Act has required group health plans, insurance companies, and HMO‘s that offer mastectomy coverage to also pay for reconstructive surgery after mastectomy. This coverage must include reconstruction of the other breast to give a more balance look, breath, prosthesis, and treatment of all physical complications of the mastectomy, including lymphedema, and Tattoos.
According to the Woman’s Health and Cancer Right Act 1998,

My journey with Breast Cancer started the same as everyone’s with my diagnosis August 02, 2012, and it quickly consumed many aspects of my life. Through my battle I learned that the journey can be mentally, physically, and financially exhausting. There is one part of the journey that seemed impossible for me, the areola tattoo. Unfortunately, my insurance did not cover the procedure and there was no one in my area who could do it. The tattooing is the last phase of the journey and I was unable to have closure. It was during my chemotherapy treatments that I decided to add the areola tattooing to my services offered. I tattooed my own areolas! It was an amazing experience! I finally had closure and a direction into a new career! Throughout the years I have dedicated my time and resources to provide a wonderful experience that that helps survivors and non survivors who need help with areola tattooing and scar reductions.
In 1998, our former President, Bill Clinton, created the 1999 Women’s Cancer Right Act. This was a noble and valiant effort to make insurance cover more than just a mastectomy. It gave hope to survivors who needed insurance coverage for every part of their journey. Unfortunately, insurance companies can still be difficult and impossible to le, especially for tattoo artist like myself because we are not doctors.
This is where donations can help!

It is wonderful to be a part of something so important!

Is the daughter of Michelle Brantley-Machuca. She seen first hand what her mother went through. She has joined S.O.S. to help people with the challenges of going through tough experiences. “My mother was strong! She fought hard! It was tough seeing her go through chemotherapy, radiation, a lumpectomy and mastectomy, and then reconstruction. I know how hard it was. I want everyone who needs areolas or scar improvements to get what they deserve, peace of mind! Our team will work hard to make sure it happens!”
Lisa Testa2024-08-31Trustindex verifies that the original source of the review is Google. Michelle is a phenomenal tattoo artist!!!! After breast cancer forced me to have a double-mastectomy, doctors said, "don't worry, we'll recreate your nipples from your own skin & they'll darken on their own." I spent the past 11 years looking like I was manufactured by Mattel , but the 'day of darkening' never came & I went to Michelle for help. Not only did my doctor highly recommended her, but she is a fellow breast cancer survivor. Who better to help with such a personal issue than a person who's walked in your shoes & suffered the same struggles? Michelle is also a very kind person, who can make anyone feel at ease. I felt like I was in good hands the entire time I was there, which, surprisingly, only took a couple of hours. I cried tears of joy when I finally saw the person looking back at me from the mirror was no longer a 'Barbie,' but a complete woman again & down to the very last detail. I can't thank Michelle enough for what she's done for me & I would HIGHLY RECOMMEND her to anyone in need of this type of work. robin reusch2024-08-30Trustindex verifies that the original source of the review is Google. Three years ago Michelle did my eyebrows for the first time. I was extremely happy with her work, so happy that I recently visited her again to add color and reshape a little bit. They are now healed and once again, I am very happy with the results. Both times she did tattoos and micro blading. Michelle is an artist and she helped me obtain eyebrows that are natural looking in shape and in color. Thank you. kim blair2023-12-21Trustindex verifies that the original source of the review is Google. Outstanding! Michelle is a talented angel! I tell everyone to get their permanent makeup done here. My brows look so very natural and I wake each day knowing I no longer have to Draw on my brows! Let me add, Michelle is an excellent artist but her personality and kindness make her a triple win. Lyndy Haley2023-01-31Trustindex verifies that the original source of the review is Google. Having thin eyebrows, I decided to have my eyebrows tattooed. I had a consultation with Michelle at SeaChelle’s LLC in Sarasota,Fla.. We had a consultation where we discussed my expectations and of the procedure and settled on a color to use. Michelle explained to me she will apply a numbing cream to my brows and that the procedure would be painless. The only discomfort I would feel would be a little bit of tenderness where she would have to keep wiping over the brows as she worked. Michelle drew my brows on with a black pencil to determine the shape. Once we were both happy that the shape was perfect she began to tattoo my brows. After the tattoo was over Michelle made sure that I was happy with the results and advised me on the aftercare and gave me a healing balm to apply on my brows throughout the healing period. Four weeks later I went back for a color touchup. I love my new brows and was so pleased I’d taken the plunge and had them done. It’s one of the best decisions I have ever made. Michelle is professional and dedicated to her work and will make sure that she does a perfect job. Thank you Michelle for doing such an amazing job!Google rating score: 5.0 of 5, based on 74 reviews
In 2012, Michelle was diagnosed with breast cancer, this changed everything in her life. It was a very hard time that almost took her life. Once survivorship was insight, she focused on her new chapter as a 3D Areola tattoo specialist. Her dedication to helping survivors became her priority!
She has a first-hand account of how devastating cancer can be physically, mentally, and financially. She has worked diligently to help in anyway possible to provide wholeness of one’s self by creating beautiful pieces of art by tattooing three-dimensional areola tattoos, the last phase in breast cancer survivor’s journeys.
She actively and unselfishly dedicates her life to help the community by participating events and meetings to help support others with compassion, awareness, education to anyone affected by cancer. Such as the Relay for Life, Making Strides in Wesley Chapel, Tampa Verteran’s Hospital, Moffit, and local breast cancer groups in the Manatee and Sarasota County’s and surrounding areas.
In addition, Michelle also raises funds to help finance areola tattoos and/or scar improvements to anyone in need of these special services.
Unfortunately, breast cancer is an epidemic. Michelle considers herself to be a sister-survivor who wants to give hope, understanding, compassion, and joy to anyone she meets. Her dedication helps survivors of any kind be able to put the reminder of the journey out of plain sight. After their appointment, they can focus on the future, not the physical scars that remind them of the difficulty of what led them to where they are today. It is a well deserved fresh start!
